WELL CHUFFED

Name: Martin Wall (everyone calls me Chuff)

Three words to describe yourself?

Reliable, honest , hardworking

How long have you been in the scene / interested in VWs?

Been in the scene since I could drive , been interested since I was a young boy

What sparked your interest in VWs?

My cousin had a MK2 Gti that he used to take me out in when he was 18 and I was 8/9 so its his fault

What got you into photography?

I did photography as a hobby for many years and running an owners club at the time the natural subject was going to be automotive.

What are your thoughts on AI software, and have you used any yet?

I have used the AI parts of Photoshop and im afraid im a bit oldschool, im not a fan of adapting a photo to make it look better than you can actually achieve with your own skill.

I have had a play with midjourney and full Ai generation of images and that’s good fun too.

Aircooled or Watercooled? Why?

I’ve had many many many watercooled VWs so will always love them, I have my first aircooled vw right now (after wanting one for 15 years) and I would never sell it so I don’t know which camp that puts me in.

What’s your daily drive?

VW T5

Anything else in your collection?

Just my T5 and T2 at the mo, plenty of room for more….

Are you working on any interesting projects right now?

My bodydropped baywindow is always an ongoing project… its getting there but still have plans.

Anything still on the wish list?

I’d love a beetle at some point, a razor, a split… the list goes on

Other than BVF, which events do you attend?

I attend lots of car shows, but I also work (photographer) at a lot of automotive events

BVF, Vanwest, Volksworld, Camperjam, Retro Rides, Ultimate Dubs, Ultimate Stance, Plus 44 automotive and Bicester Scramble are all regular events I attend, I’m official photographer for some of those.

I also work a lot at Goodwood, Revival, Members meeting and Festival Of Speed.

If you could only go on one road trip, where would it be and what would you drive (VW)?

I’d love to do a trip to chimay/spa in my baywindow, it’s a long old way tho and its always a bit nervewracking to make that kind of trip in a slow old vw an inch off the floor. I will do it one day tho.

What does the future of the VW scene look like to you?

I think for some events (not so much the camping festival style events in fairness) but for some of the big VW shows some of the old school Aircooled lot need to get with the times.

I see a lot of whinging about shows allowing watercooled into what used to be a aircooled show but the facts are, young uns cant afford 50/60k splitscreens. We should embrace that they want to get into Volkswagens and welcome them in, they are the future of this scene. If we can invite them in and get them into the older stuff then even better! Just my two penneth, don’t shoot the messenger.
